Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil Engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies

Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil Engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies of projects in many areas, including highway construction, waste management, coastal development and geotechnical engineering. Consulting Civil Engineers liaise with clients to plan, manage, design and supervise the construction of projects. As contracting Civil Engineers, they turn the plans of consulting Civil Engineers (designers) into reality. They oversee the actual construction on the ground and work in conjunction with consulting engineers.

Civil Engineering graduates are also valued in commercial and corporate sectors such as finance, banking and accountancy. A Civil Engineering degree would be of great value in operational management, supply chain management, procurement, intellectual property, and logistics and after-sales management also. The Civil Engineering Department of the Institute was started in the year of 2011 offering Under Graduate course in Civil Engineering with an intake capacity of 60 students, which has now been increased to 120. The department has well qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members and lab technicians. The Department has state-of-the-art laboratories and modern infrastructure.

Lab

Computer Programming Lab

The purpose of this course is to introduce to students to the field of programming using C language. The students will be able to enhance their analyzing and problem solving skills and use the same for writing programs in C.

Lab Outcomes

  • After Completion of the course student should able to know concepts in problem solving
  • To perform programming in C language
  • To write diversified solutions using C language

Fluid Mechanics Lab

The fluid mechanics laboratory has all the equipments to carry out fluid related experiments such calculation of metacentric height, justification of Bernoulli €™s theorem, diffusion of submerged air jet, verifying momentum equation, coefficient of discharge, velocity and the coefficient of contraction of an orifice and venturimeter, calibration of orifice meter etc.

  • To understand the flow measurement in a pipe flow
  • To determine the energy loss in pipe flow
  • To study the characteristics of turbines
  • To study the characteristics of pumps
  • To measure the discharge in a open channel flow

Surveying Lab

The Surveying Laboratory is equipped with the instruments and tools that students use throughout the surveying course. Students learn techniques for gathering field data with both traditional and modern instruments.

They also study different types of topographical maps and prepare conventional symbols chart. The students are divided in lab groups of three students in each group and have dedicated set of each instrument such as auto level, theodolites, and tape measures, chaining pins, total station and other common surveying tools and to use.

Lab Outcomes

  • Appreciate the need for accurate and thorough note taking in field work to serve as a legal record.
  • To provide insight into modern surveying instruments and techniques
  • To allow students to learn techniques for gathering field data.
  • Gain the ability to use modern survey equipment to measure angles and distances

Building Planning & Drawing

This laboratory has a total of 30 computer systems with recent version of CAD advanced installed in them. The students were taught to draft symbols used in civil engineering drawing, masonry bonds, doors, windows and staircases, plumbing & electrical fitting drawing, and comprehensive drawing of residential building (layout, plan, elevation & sectional elevation, plumbing & electrical fillings in out).

Lab Outcomes

  • Students learn and operate Cad and transform sketches and technical data into electronic drawings.
  • Gain the ability to produce a Cad drawing from a field tour to collect data and produce an electronic drawing that is graded by a board consisting of the client and professional engineers.

Hydraulics & Hydraulic Machines Lab

The purpose of this laboratory is to enhance and reinforce the understanding of fundamentals of Hydraulic machines. This laboratory is equipped with all instruments and facilities to study hydraulics related problems. The experiments carried out here are designed to demonstrate the applications of the basic hydraulics principles and to provide a more intuitive and physical understanding of the theory.

Lab Outcomes

  • Analyze a variety of practical fluid-flow devices and utilize fluid mechanics principles in design.
  • Given the required flow rate and pressure rise, select the proper pump to optimize the pumping efficiency.

Advanced Survey Field Work

This laboratory is as advance version of surveying laboratory. Triangulation and Trilateration of a given area, adjusting the angular observations taken in triangulation exercise and compute the adjusted coordinates of triangulation stations, plotting the coordinates at a given scale on plane table and their field checking are some of the advanced particles which are carried out during lab.

Lab Outcomes

  • To get introduced to different geodetic methods of survey such as triangulation, trigonometric leveling
  • To learn about errors in measurements and their adjustments in a traverse
  • To get introduced to modern advanced surveying techniques involved such as remote sensing, Total station, GPS, Photogrammetric etc.

Concrete Lab

This lab allows students to carry various testing regarding concrete such as workability, compressive strength, tensile strength, design mix, modulus of rupture as per Indian Standard recommendation guidelines. These tests are carried out to illustrate the basic properties and methods of testing of cement, aggregates, paste, mortar, and concrete. This lab is equipped with vibrating table, compaction factor test apparatus, slump cone, compression testing machine.

  • To understand the properties of ingredients of concrete.
  • To study the behavior of concrete at its fresh and hardened state
  • To study about the concrete design mix. To know about the procedures in concreting
  • To understand special concrete and their use

Geology Lab

Identifying different types of rocks and understanding their behavior are the major objectives fulfilled in this laboratory. Further understating of origin of earthquake and the behaviors of faults is also covered in this lab. Various rock and mineral samples are available for easy identification of students.

  • Understanding of the scientific method as it pertains to geology

Environmental Lab

The Environmental Laboratory has testing equipments to carry out tests such as determination of turbidity, color, conductivity, pH, alkalinity and acidity, hardness and chlorides, dissolved oxygen in water

  • To understand the basic characteristics of water and its determination
  • To provide adequate knowledge about the water treatment processes and its design
  • To have adequate knowledge on operation and maintenance of water supply

Transportation Lab

This lab well equipped with instruments such as los angel apparatus, bitumen ductility testing machine, bitumen mixer, bitumen penetration apparatus, Impaction test apparatus, marshal stability test apparatus, film stripping device to carry out experiments in the fields of rigid and flexible pavements and testing pavements materials and structures.

CAD Lab- I

This is an advanced lab in continuation of the labs designing and drafting lab of second year.

  • To prepare detailed working drawing for doors, windows, etc.

CAD Lab- II

Advanced CAD Lab, for implementation of projects.

Industrial Interaction

As part of academic curriculum the students undergo industrial training after third year. In this the students share their knowledge and practical implementation if their projects which they carry out during industrial training

Project

In this students are allowed to choose any of the field they studied till third year and prepare a project which is also part of academic curriculum. This allows students enhance knowledge about any one domain.

Seminar

Students are allowed o select a topic of their own interest and deliver a seminar on that. The seminar helps students to learn about a topic and have experts’ comments for the further improvement. This also helps students to be industry ready and face interviews and GDs.
