Scope & Employability

The major thrust in this course is related to the basic principles and detailed analysis of different types of equipments and systems for generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of Electrical Energy. The course also covers the study of electronic devices and circuits involved in measurement, instrumentation, control and protection of electrical equipments and conversion systems. Concept of computer and recent applications of computer based systems in design, analysis and efficient operation of power system; maintaining quality and security, also included in the course. Electrical graduate are employed in Electricity Boards/Utility companies and large industries as engineers and managers, responsible for installation, maintenance, operation of power handling equipments and systems. Industries manufacturing large electrical machines and equipments employ engineers in design, production and testing. Educational Institutions and Research establishments recruit electrical engineers as faculty and scientists.

During the B.Tech programme, the electrical engineers develop analytical skills and reasoning power along with computer knowledge and programming skills. This facilitates them to acquire employment also as software professionals. With little extra input, an electrical and electronic engineering graduate can easily find place in any area of Information Technology, which is the potential job market at present.

The department is well equipped to train electrical graduates in order to advance their theoretical knowledge and sound practices of the profession.

Laboratories

Electrical Engg:

This Laboratory has been established to give knowledge about AC & DC machines, different methods of Speed Control of DC shunt 7 series motor. Students design speed torque performance curves of 3 phase induction motors, SCR.

Network lab:

This lab helps in understanding the significance of measuring quantities in terms of precision, accuracy & other important parameters. Application of instruments like Wattmeter’s, AC & DC Ammeter, Voltmeters, Bridges and Potentiometers is done in this lab. All measuring instruments are well calibrated.

Machines lab:

This lab comprehensibly helps students in understanding electrical circuits, impedance, admittance, hybrid parameters etc. It is equipped with sufficient numbers of bread boards, C.R.O., Variable Voltage supplies and other equipments.

Measurement And Transducer Lab:

This lab helps in understanding the significance of measuring quantities in terms of precision, accuracy & other important parameters. Control System Lab:

The Control System laboratory is very important to the 3rd year students because in this lab student learns the basic working of the equipment and its controlling with the help of controllers like P,PI,PID and error controllers like Kp, Kv, Ka and so forth.

Microprocessors Lab:

The purpose of this laboratory is to train the students to be familiar with the software and hardware of microprocessors so that they can gain enough experiences to meet the demand of the microprocessor era.

Power System Lab:

The lab is primarily used for teaching power system basic and advance modelling, transformers, transmission lines and generation, distribution network and fault analysis, protective relays characteristics and schematics, & power quality analysis.
